The Spanish Steps consist of a series of distinct ramps that link the Trinità dei Monti church with the Piazza di Spagna square. The Italian name for the square, "Piazza di Spagna," originates from the presence of the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See (Vatican).
The steps bloom with flowers every year during the spring season, in celebration of Rome's birthday on April 21st. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the area of the spanish steps served as a gathering spot for artists and writers, including luminaries like Goethe, Keats, Shelley, and Stendhal, who frequented the surrounding cafes. Today, contemporary tourists converge here for renowned shopping of top-tier brands like Gucci, Valentino and Armani.
